On 2nd January, 1915, the 2nd Essex battalion of 12 Brigade, 4th Division moved into trenches near Le Touquet, a small hamlet near Ploegsteert, in Belgium where they remained for most of the month and through into February with companies rotating between the front line and billets in reserve. On 8th February the battalion diary recorded that it was a very quiet day with only one man killed and another five wounded as a result of sniper fire. Edward Palmer was the man killed |
